I was trying to run some fight simulations comparing two different weapons and when I get to the point of entering the monster's name the program closes on me. Here is a screen capture of the point I can get to: https://snag.gy/pUF73K.jpg After I hit the enter key the program just seems to close. So I tried to see if 15:13:59 the other character worked, because I have one character for wizmode testing and another that I started earlier, and it produced an error when I tried to save. I can get through the initial splash screen and character selection as seen here in this screen capture: https://snag.gy/GoXeN3.jpg. However when I try the save function it produces an error as shown in this screen capture: 15:13:59 https://snag.gy/9MSOWJ.jpg Any ideas on how to fix this is appreciated. 15:23:23 weird. not a lot of information to work with, though, if it closes without even generating a crashlog 15:24:26 the fsim problem and morgue file problem seem unrelated at first; i'd say check that your morgue file still exists and is writable 15:50:33 Railbird80, does morgue/Railbird.txt exist? 16:03:59 just kidding, found some time 16:04:00 ebering LoS PR should be good to go 16:05:01 03stenella02 07https://github.com/crawl/crawl/pull/892 * 0.23-a0-403-g91b5e9c: Use LoS features in autoexclude 10(12 days ago, 1 file, 11+ 1-) 13https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/91b5e9cbc4c8 16:05:18 -!- MarvinPA_ is now known as MarvinPA 16:30:26 amalloy: I must say I am a bit perplexed as to why the game loads with the HuFE shown to be at XL 3, shown here in this screen capture: https://snag.gy/eROJGk.jpg However, when I go to look at the Railbird.txt file in the morgue it shows a XL 1 HuFE as shown in this screen capture: https://snag.gy/tJzy4R.jpg , so obviously not the right file, but I am following the correct directory path 16:30:26 as shown here in this screen capture? https://snag.gy/Q9EOPy.jpg 16:31:36 the error message suggests that saving the file succeeds but saving the morgue does not 16:32:02 so the morgue is a snapshot of a previous version of the character (shortly after character creation, apparently) 17:08:01 amalloy: I think I have partial explanation as to why the files are different, I decided to run DCSS with administrative priviledges and the game loaded with the XL 1 HuFE as shown in this screen capture: https://snag.gy/cPwApg.jpg , and the information of that character matches with the Railbird.txt that was shown in my previous post, so I guess the question is how did the game run without 17:08:01 administrative privedges before, and where are those morgue files for the XL 3 HuFE and the XL 27 HuFE I use for wizemode? 17:10:09 that'll do it, yep 17:10:19 you can try searching for the text file on your hard drive 17:10:28 it'll be the name of the character 17:51:24 oh yeah, and also definitely do not regularly run with admin privileges 18:22:07 Unstable branch on underhound.eu updated to: 0.23-a0-435-g79ed067e35 (34) 18:54:45 would anyone be interested in a patch to build with cmake? 19:13:22 kaisn: I think there's interest in switching over to a more sane build system, potentially cmake would be a good fit, but there are probably a lot of issues to work through 19:14:25 more sane handling of contribs (not sure if more complicated dependencies like SDL support cmake) and a less complexity would be great, but it has to be able to build all the targets we need it to build 19:14:36 s/and a less/and less/ 19:29:24 amalloy: i was watching some of this year's roguelike celebration talks and realised i hadn't actually seen yours from last year 19:29:24 MarvinPA: You have 1 message. Use !messages to read it. 19:30:06 so i watched that too, it was good! 19:30:25 glad to hear it! 19:31:52 MarvinPA: any particularly notable talks this year? i haven't watched any of them yet 19:32:47 i've just watched the caves of qud commentated playthrough so far, that was pretty cool 19:33:04 since i'd been meaning to try qud for ages and finally got around to it recently 19:34:08 i extremely have no idea what i'm doing in it but it's great anyway 19:36:03 and i saw a brief clip from "Alexei Pepers - Nethack: Tech Tourist", nethack code archaeology looks fun 19:36:05 This is strange, DCSS says I successfully created a dump as shown by the this screen capture: https://snag.gy/01XI4j.jpg However when I go to search for the file in windows morgue directory. It is not there as shown in this screen shot: https://snag.gy/c7tFxy.jpg Is the file name 'morgue/Railbird80_wizmode.txt' or is it 'Railbird80_wizmode.txt'? I did a search for both and neither yielded 19:36:05 any results. As shown by this screen shot: https://snag.gy/iz4j3e.jpg 19:39:27 probably from your current directory 19:40:10 !tell gammafunk wow i finally figured out what i was looking at with that vault, that took me a while 19:40:11 MarvinPA: OK, I'll let gammafunk know. 19:40:25 I searched the whole computer from the root directory of the C: drive 19:42:29 Yeah, I decided not to merge that one 19:42:30 gammafunk: You have 1 message. Use !messages to read it. 19:43:01 !messages 19:43:02 No messages for Railbird80. 19:53:04 kaisn we talked about it briefly some time ago. Why do you ask? 19:54:48 well i really like DCSS and I would like to contribute something. I have migrated projects from makefiles to cmake profesionally several times and know some of the pitfalls 19:55:34 and i thought this might be a good thing to contribute. I am aware though that this is something that could take a few weekends. :) 19:56:12 advil isn't in here right now but he showed some interest 19:56:13 kaisn: I'd talk to advil or amalloy about that before embarking, maybe also |amethyst 19:56:24 I can help you out, as well, if you'd like 19:56:54 But to answer your question, whether or not it's *wanted*, the answer was definitely "yes" 19:57:08 at least when it was brought up earlier 19:57:27 i don't really know enough about cmake to have an opinion 19:57:33 well ok thats good enough for me to take a look to get a feel for how much work this would be 19:57:40 The makefile is huge 19:58:03 I spent some time looking into it myself and I decided it'd be something I'd look at again later 19:58:21 I think advil did basically the same thing 19:58:21 only 1.7k lines :P 19:58:22 Okay, I only recently started using the tiles version of DCSS about a month ago, so this is what I believe happened: Upon installation of the local tiles version of DCSS it required administrative priviledges, so after the installation I immediately ran the program and created the HuFE character of Railbird which in turn created Railbird.txt with administrative priviledges associated with 19:58:22 that file. As shown here: https://snag.gy/RymgVY.jpg I did not experiment with wizmode until I ran later instances of DCSS locally, but the wizemode character was created without administrative priviledges, and that is why I am able to create a dump for Railbird80_wizmode although unable to locate the file for some odd reason, as shown here: https://snag.gy/01XI4j.jpg , but not save 19:58:22 successfully or create a dump for Railbird which was the first character instance created with admin priviledges. As shown here: https://snag.gy/e8NAba.jpg Although I have no explanation as to why the game closes when I try to run a fight simulation in wizmode. 19:58:43 Glad you got it sorted, Railbird 19:58:54 Is there a dev mailing list btw? I could not find anything in the dev wiki 19:59:04 this is not really my timezone :P (EU here) 19:59:12 kaisn: the devteam primarily communicates here 19:59:30 people with voice are members 20:00:12 there is a mailing list but it's... rarely used these days 20:00:22 hehe ok ill stick to IRC then 20:00:52 how about I have a look and if I am not too scared Ill open up a GH issue? 20:01:06 Report back regardless, but yeah, that would work 20:01:32 kaisn: a GH issue would be a good place to center discussion 20:01:37 yeah just b.c. of the timezone. Its 2 a.m. here 20:02:03 allright will do, but wont get to that before the weekend 20:02:16 thanks guys and see you on GH then 20:03:47 -!- switch___ is now known as switch__ 20:06:33 Railbird80, I would worry that some files/directories are owned by Administrator and need to have permissions changed 20:07:18 Is there a list of officially supported platforms? 20:07:51 geekosaur: okay thanks for the tip. 20:10:41 kaisn: i also suggest dropping at least one message in here when your issue/PR is ready to discuss. not everyone gets notified of activity on issues 20:10:43 rip, too late 20:12:11 He's EU, said he was getting off for the night, but that he'd be back 20:14:23 -!- amalloy is now known as amalloy_ 20:19:34 -!- ProzacElf_ is now known as ProzacElf 20:29:02 ebering: were the changes to 892 about what you wanted? 21:00:38 -!- amalloy_ is now known as amalloy 22:04:05 could someone update the csdc pin? 22:04:08 thank you 22:20:07 done 23:37:37 switch__: please start using util/checkwhite and checking your patches for correct whitespacing 23:38:01 roger that 23:42:48 it doesn't look like it changed anything 23:42:55 were you referring to the autoexclude PR? 23:43:28 switch__: yes. there's whitespace at the end of line in exclude.cc 23:43:56 also, in some of your msvc patches (and a bunch of contribs) bad whitespace made it into the main repo 23:45:26 whoops. 23:45:31 sorry, won't happen again 23:48:11 03stenella02 {ebering} 07* 0.23-a0-436-g57debff: Don't autoexclude past glass sometimes (11658) 10(12 days ago, 1 file, 10+ 1-) 13https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/57debff0a5a4 23:49:32 https://crawl.develz.org/mantis/view.php?id=11658 can close this 23:49:42 oh 23:49:45 you already did 23:51:07 well, not yet, i guess. you know what i mean 23:58:19 do the msvc vcxproj.user files require the UTF-8 BOM at the start of the file for MSVC to work? 23:59:05 seems like they do not require it 23:59:16 I don't think the user files are required at all, but the first time I pushed the project files I left something out, so I added everything to make sure it worked the second time
